NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENTóMay 2017

    Dear Pittsburgh Club Members:

I look forward to seeing many of you at the club's spring wrap-up event, our Indoor Picnic and Poker Run on Sunday, May 21, starting at 2 p.m. in the Liberty and Old Glory rooms at Mulberry Regional Recreation Center.  Cost is $10 per member.  If you have not already signed up and would like to do so, please contact Club Secretary Cathy Johnson, cybercat@thevillages.net or 352-504-0426.

After the May event, our next regular meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Americana Room at Mulberry Grove Rec. Center.  Our entertainment will be "Name that Tune with the Piano Lady."  Should be a lot of fun.  The rest of the fall and early winter 2017 schedule is already filled with lots of fun entertainment and camaraderie.  We have begun working on early 2018.

In other news, your club will memorialize our late founding Co-President Joan Lasky when we present a check for $1,500 in her memory to The Villages (Cornerstone) Hospice House on Wednesday, May 10.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our members who have made possible this very generous contribution in Joan's memory to help with the hospice's expansion.  Joan's sister, Rose, will be part of our presentation team.  As you know, a new plaque in Joan's memory also soon will be installed on our club bench along Buena Vista Boulevard near Glenview Champions Golf Club.

Also, our ardent hackers are looking forward to the All Star Villages Club Golf Challenge, which this year will include teams representing the Pirates and at least four other major league baseball teams.  It will be held in late afternoon on June 13 on two nines at Palmer Legends Golf Club.  For more information, contact club member Jan Lockhart (janlockhart@comcast.net or 412-480-2652).

Please check out the beautiful new front page of our website, created by our own "Cyber Cat," Club Secretary Cathy Johnson.

    All my best,
    Joe Walker, Pittsburgh Club President
